The Coca-cola Company commisioned
The Franklin Mint to produce this series of medals to publicize
America's participation in the 1972 Olympic Games. Each medal
features one of the many Olympic events and Gold medal winners
in that event starting in 1896 at the first modern Olympics.
This set is accompanied by a very
informative booklet providing a history of the Olympics with
information on many famous Olympians.
The first medal was distributed
to Coca-Cola bottlers.
Sets containing the other 17 medals
were made available to purchasers of Coca-Cola or Sprite.
Proceeds from the sale of these
medal sets were donated by the Coca-Cola Company to the U.S.
Olympic Team.
