The United States Mint began production of silver eagles in 1986. They used Adolph Weinman's classic walking liberty design on the obverse. The coins contain one troy ounce of pure silver and are legal tender for one dollar. Uncirculated specimens are mass produced and sold through a network of official distributors and coin dealers. The silver eagle is also produced in Proof and sold directly by the mint. The Proof Eagles are all nicely cameoed and come encased in a plastic cap packaged in a nice velvet case and boxed with Certificate of Authenticity.

In 2006, the Mint introduced the "burnished uncirculated" variety of silver eagle minted at West Point and with the "W" mintmark. These are sold directly by the mint at a premium. The eagles are housed in a plastic capsule in either a pouch/box (in 2006) and a capsule/box starting in 2007.

The Mint has also issued several different sets of silver eagles since 2006.

All of our coins are in original uncirculated or proof condition. The proof silver eagles come with boxes and COA's as issued.

The value of these silver eagles is directly related to the current value of silver. Due to extreme volatility in the silver market, River City Coins reserves the right to limit the quantity of silver eagles that may be ordered or to reject and refund any order at our discretion.

2006 20th Anniversary American Silver Eagle Set

In 2006, the United States Mint produced 20th anniversary sets of the silver eagles. These sets consisted of three American eagle coins: a 2006-W Proof, a 2006-W Uncirculated, and a 2006-P Reverse Proof. The proof and uncirculated silver eagles were available as singles or in other set combinations, but the reverse proof was only available as part of this set. Only 250,000 sets were produced and they were sold out at the mint.

2006-W 20th Anniversary American Silver Eagle

To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Silver American Eagle Dollar coin, the US Mint struck silver eagles at the West Point Mint on specially burnished blanks. These coins carry a similar finish to their bullion counterparts, but carry the "W" mintmark reflecting their striking at West Point. Each coin is encapsulated in plastic and placed in a protective custom-designed presentation case and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. This issue was also sold out at the mint, but was available as part of the three coin set.

2007 United States Mint Annual Uncirculated Dollar Coin Set

This distinctive set features uncirculated versions of the circulating dollar coins produced by the United States Mint in 2007: the four Presidential $1 Coins from the United States Mint at Philadelphia, a Sacagawea Golden Dollar from the United States Mint at Denver and the stunning American Eagle Silver Dollar Coin produced at the United States Mint at West Point.
